Color. Pattern. Texture. These are the things that inspire me to create with textiles. The ability to touch the colors is very satisfying. While paints and colored pencils can be inspiring, you can’t wrap yourself up in them. You can’t feel the texture. They can’t keep you warm. Whether it is fabric, yarns, or threads their tactile qualities make me want to manipulate them. As I grow older I find that I am attracted to more vibrant colors and more variety in pattern and texture. I am enjoying the experience of manipulating the fabric beyond sewing by painting on the fabric and using interesting embellishments to help tell the story. As a quilt artist I am able to combine my lifelong love of sewing and fabric to make beautiful expressions of my daily observations of the world around me.
